Ram Nath Kovind: New president of India

Ram Nath Kovind sworn in as the new President of India. He is the country's 14th President and only the second Dalit to hold the office.

1. Kovind has served as member on several important Parliamentary Committees.

• Parliamentary Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes/Tribes.
• Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs.
• Parliamentary Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas. 
• Parliamentary Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment.
• Parliamentary Committee on Law and Justice. 
• He has also chaired a Rajya Sabha House Committee.

2. Internationally, Kovind has represented India in the United Nations and addressed the United Nations General Assembly in October, 2002.

3. On August 8, 2015, Kovind was appointed governor of Bihar.

4. Kovind filed his nomination papers as the NDA presidential candidate on 21st June in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief ministers of different BJP-ruled states and its allies.

The 2017 Presidential election results were announced on July 20 and Kovind was declared the winner by a huge margin.
