Hello visitors, welcome to Gurukul Spot.
To keep you informed in these difficult times, we are starting COVID - 19 series.
Let’s get started.

This is the first blog in the series, In this blog, let’s know about the history and some of the facts about Corona Virus in no time.

1. What is the full form of COVID-19?
COVID 19 stands for Corona Virus Disease 2019 (2019 is when it was first discovered)

2. When and where was the Coronavirus first identified?
The outbreak was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei, China, in December 2019, and was recognized as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 11 March 2020.

3. How was COVID-19 originated?
Let me take a statement from WIRED, it states - The disease appears to have originated from a Wuhan seafood market where wild animals, including marmots, birds, rabbits, bats, and snakes, are traded illegally. Coronaviruses are known to jump from animals to humans, so it’s thought that the first people infected with the disease – a group primarily made up of stallholders from the seafood market – contracted it from contact with animals.
But still, there are a lot of rumours going on, research is on its way we don’t have any published study till now to prove the exact origin.

4. What is the mortality rate of COVID-19?
The World Health Organization’s director-general talked of 3.4%, i.e., approximately 4 out of 100 infected patients are likely to die, but this figure was calculated by dividing the number of deaths by the number of officially confirmed cases. We know there are many more mild cases that do not get to the hospital and are not being counted, which would bring the mortality rate significantly down.

5. What are the different stages of Coronavirus?
Stage 1:
Stage 1 indicates the stage where the infection is only limited to those who have travelled to virus hit countries and have tested positive.

Stage 2:
Stage 2 indicates when the infection is locally transmitted. The transmission is either from those who are close to the family of the infected patient or the people he or she has come in contact with. In this case, the source of the infection is known and can be located.

Stage 3:
Stage 3 refers to community transmission where the source of the infection can no longer be identified. When a region is considered at Stage 3, it means that a person can test positive even when there is no exposure to the infected person or any foreign travelling patient.

Stage 4:
Stage 4 is when the disease is considered an epidemic and there is a severe outbreak.
