Quite a lot of questions from beginners regarding Data Science like,
Where to start?
How to start?
What to learn first?
After hearing these questions from almost all background students and some entry and mid-level professionals, I say to them is - It is not too difficult to become a Data Scientist. The only thing required is your continuous interest and consistency in learning.
Note these points (Must follow - otherwise get the hell out of here, it is not for you):
1. First, make your mind think like a Data Scientist - you should see everything from an analytical perspective.
2. If you don't know how to google? first, learn that.
3. It is good to ask the right questions, but not silly questions(strictly avoided). What do I mean by silly then?... If you can get answers to your questions by Researching Online/Google/YouTube/Blogs/Books/Somehow Yourself, then please don't ask. If you don't get answers to some of your questions after trying all the above, then only ask. (Trust me, you’ll benefit a lot from this - you thank me later so, "Think before you ask").
Steps in order (Please follow the order otherwise don't follow):
1. Introduction - Learn What is Data Science? What Does he do? What are the top skills required? What are the top tools? What is the Data Science life cycle and methodology? What are Data Science roles? etc...
2. Learn Statistics for Data Science.
3. Start with Basic Python Programming for Data Science - Learn Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib libraries in detail with hands-on coding. (Use Jupyter Notebook IDE)
4. Dig deeper into Data Analysis with Python.
5. Go further into Data Visualization with Python and if it interests you learn Tableau.
6. Learn SQL Relational Databases and Excel with Data Science in context.
7. Only after finishing above go for Machine Learning with Python.
Take a Tech Break, hello this not a tea break- what I meant was --- Do hands-on coding, projects, participate in Kaggle or any other Data Science Competitions, Hackathons, etc...
8. Deep Learning/Big Data - depends on What your learning path is? and Where you want to work?
9. If you become comfortable in all the above topics then move on to exploring R programming for Data Science.
10. If you are a fresher or with little experience then Apply for Internships first, I bet you can crack it easily. If you are experienced then directly apply for full-time jobs and make a transition into Data Science.
11. Then apply for jobs - you end up with more job offers, maybe with few rejects (because it is life and this is the reality).
12. You teach me Data Science or guide me How to become a Data Scientist? - I'm always open and love to learn from you.
Now you ask me to provide links, materials, videos, this, that.....etc. Even I know the resources - I say no to you because we are all different - the one which suits me may not suits you. The only reason I say this is, I want you to explore things out and check yourself which material works for you, which video lecture suits you because you all are not the same. Then only you become a successful Data Scientist. Though I don't entertain spoon-feeding I’ll guide you what is right and wrong. If you expect someone to do so, You are in the wrong place. Caution: Don't waste your money to learn Data Science you can spend that for Certification in Data Science if required, i.e., only from top reputed Companies or Institutions.
(Certification is not mandatory but skills are). Coursera/edX/YouTube/Datacamp/Udemy/Udacity/Dataquest are the best ways to learn Data Science and most of them offer free videos to learn and only charge for verified certifications.
